Bella Bella

Greene, Barbara, (film director.). Smith, John N., (film producer.). McLaren, Ian, (film producer.). National Film Board of Canada (Montreal), (film producer.).

Summary: North of Vancouver, 500 km up-coast, live the Bella Bella from Campbell Island. Since the coming of the white man these fishing people have watched their ancient Heiltsuk culture and their independence all but disappear. Today, in an energetic attempt to become self-sufficient, they are regaining both--successfully combining a plan for economic development with a program of cultural revival. We hear the Heiltsuk language spoken in the film (Haíɫzaqvḷa).
